Families turned out in their thousands to greet Father Christmas and his reindeer when they flew into Christchurch for the Christmas Festival last Saturday.
The weather was kind and the Christmas Market and the new Christmas Craft Fair reported good business all day.
Entertainment was provided throughout the day with Christchurch Community Partnership’s Magical Moment in the marquee in Saxon Square featuring performances from local school children, Christchurch Music Centre, Funky Little Choir, the Royal British Legion Band and more.
State of Undress and Jan’s Gems troop of belly dancers were among some of the entertainers in the street.
In Bargates the Christchurch Baptist Church held their Messy Christmas and also invited people to dress up and ‘get in the picture’ in a nativity scene with real miniature donkeys.
As darkness fell Father Christmas and his reindeer paraded down Bargates from Peeks Partystore to join the crowds in the High Street who had been entertained from the balcony of the Mayor’s Parlour by Heart FM presenters Dan Mills and Warren Hayden. Chris Jarvis and Nick Wilton were also on hand dressed as Silly Billy and Dame Trott from the Bournemouth International Centre’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.
The Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Sue Spittle joined the Heart presenters and the crowd for the countdown to the lights switch-on.
Paul Riley, chairman of the Christchurch Christmas Festival committee, said: This was one of our most successful Festivals as we were blessed with good weather and Im sure everyone had a good time. There was a huge crowd who came to see Father Christmas and his reindeer and the atmosphere was fantastic. This is a great community event in Christchurch and we really have to thank the many volunteers who give up so much of their time to make it such a success.
